Devon Green Power
Welcome to our website for Devon Green Power – the renewable bioenergy facility under the new ownership of Acorn Bioenergy, replacing Willand Biogas.
Our approach focuses on making sure the plant is compliant with the latest standards, operates safely and without disruption or harm.
By refurbishing the facility, we will:
produce renewable energy to heat homes,
deliver natural fertiliser for local farmers,
work within existing regulatory controls such as number of HGV movements, feedstock limits and operational hours etc.
This website will continue to be updated. In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to raise any concerns – please do not hesitate to contact us.
Who are Acorn Bioenergy?
Acorn Bioenergy are a developer of renewable biomethane generation facilities. We expect to become the leading biomethane producer in the UK. We currently have one operating site – Three Maids in Winchester, and a number of other consented schemes in various stages of construction.
Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition while improving sustainable farming practices and developing national energy security. Being a good neighbour and bringing benefits to the local communities is at the core of our mission.
The Site
What are biomethane generation facilities?
These are facilities that use an anaerobic digestion technology to generate renewable and low carbon biomethane gas by breaking down organic material.
There are currently over 700 operational anaerobic digestion sites in the UK.
The material fed into the facility is broken down by microbes. This produces:
Biomethane, a fuel which can directly heat homes;
Natural fertiliser, which will be used on nearby farms, replacing imported artificial products.
Overall, the process uses a natural cycle to make a sustainable fuel. This cycle forms a part of the circular economy – there is no waste arising from the process.
Register as a supplier
We welcome expressions of interests from local businesses interested in becoming a supplier of feedstock to Devon Green Power.

A new era
As part of this commitment, we will improve the facility, ensuring it is brought up to the latest standards, operates safely and without disruption or harm. These improvements will work within existing regulatory controls such as number of HGV movements, feedstock limits and operational hours.
To achieve this, we are already undertaking work including:
Refurbishing the digestor tanks to ensure they operate at the highest modern standards;
Making changes to the site to ensure the facility complies with and operates within planning conditions;
Introducing new methods to track HGV deliveries ensuring they occur within operational hours and on agreed upon routes;
Reapplying for updated environmental permitting and hazardous substance control adhering to modern safety standards;
Adding a silage clamp immediately adjacent to the site. This would store silage feedstock in a purpose-designed, covered and contained storage area, replacing the previous approach of open storage of silage on the vehicle hardstanding area associated with the plant.
As part of this new era for the site, we are changing the name of the facility to Devon Green Power.
Being a good neighbour
We want to start a new chapter for Devon Green Power – one where you are kept informed and are able to reach out to us with any queries or concerns. We are committed to keeping you informed on any developments on our plans and will update this website regularly with information about our progress on Devon Green Power.
